You may have heard/read that chatGTP is being used by students to create essays, and subsequently banned for use by colleges. You may have heard that chtGPT is being used by developers to create code, and to improve existing code (I am certainly using it for this purpose)! Google and now microsoft have announced their own versions to rival openAI’s Frankenstein. It appears that chatGPT is storming the world and beginning to touch every aspect of our lives! BUT, hold on a second! Why are we becoming so obsessed with a creation that can’t even solve a simple math question that is aimed at 11 year olds?! That’s right! I asked chatGPT to give me a good question that I could pose to my 11 year old daughter. It did that. I then asked chatGPT to verify the answer…. IT FAILED!
Trying to keep my daughter away from online technologies and junk, I turned to chatGPT to set a challenge (yes I am aware of the irony)!
My question was simple enough;
“Please give me a math problem that will test the critical and analytical capabilities of an 11 year old”.
chatGPT duly obliged:
So far so good. All is well and chatGPT is winning me over. But here is when we started to run in to problems!
This is when I was hit with a wave of self-doubt. I took several minutes to think through the question, question my math ability, and to question my own sanity!
Nope! I’m still questioning my own abilities, sanity, and entire existence!
Ok, so by now I am starting to smile and see the funny side of things! How on earth can chatGPT not know the answer to its own question?! It’s a math question for an 11 year-old! Have I just discovered the human side of chatGPT… it doesn’t like maths!
I decided to call a day!
I wonder if anyone else has asked the same question, and received different answers?
